The Algerian dinar (DZD) is the currency of Algeria. It is subdivided into 100 centimes. The dinar was introduced on April 11964, replacing the Algerian franc. The Bank of Algeria is the central bank responsible for issuing the dinar. The name "dinar" comes from the Roman denarius. The Algerian dinar is primarily used within Algeria for domestic transactions. Due to exchange controls, it is not widely traded internationally.
