The Albanian lek (ALL) is the official currency of Albania. It is subdivided into 100 qindarka, although qindarka are no longer in circulation. The lek was first introduced in 1926. The name "lek" is derived from Alexander the Great (Albanian: Leka i Madh). The issuance of the currency is managed by the Bank of Albania. The lek has experienced periods of inflation and currency reform throughout its history. Today, it is a relatively stable currency within the Balkan region.
